China-Norway Collaboration for Vision Rehabilitation

Beijing Research Institute of Vision Science (BRIVS) and Sekwa Eye Hospital is one of the pioneer specialized research institute and hospital in China for vision care and vision rehabilitation.  It was founded by a group of specialists in 2004, located in Center City of Beijing .

With the support of the Norwegian FK Foundation (Fredskorpset) and later on the Research Council of Norway, Sekwa has built partnerships with institutions from several countries, including Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Norway. With these partnerships, BRIVS/Sekwa has built an international environment for its medical service, research, and professional training.

BRIVS/Sekwa is one of the very few hospitals in Beijing with the privilege for independent international cooperation, issued by the Administration of Foreign Experts of the State of the People’s Republic of China.


BRIVS/Sekwa is mainly composed of four divisions, ie.,


A. Division of Clinical Ophthalmology

Providing comprehensive and specialized eye care services for patients with eye diseases.

While serving patients, it also works as a technical supporting and training center serving other medical institutions internationally.


B. Division of Preventive Vision Care

Providing systemic support for community eye care providers.


C. Division of Vision Rehabilitation

Providing systemic service for patients with vision problems, including optometry service, low vision rehabilitation and neuro-vision rehabilitation.

D. Division of Educational-Rehabilitation for Children
